RAMDisk Support Center - Technical FAQs

How much of my total memory should be left for system use, and not allocated to the RAMDisk?
For Windows 10, you should leave at least 2GB minimum for system use. Over allocating memory to the RAMDisk will result in other system operations running slower. RAMDisk should be assigned the “spare memory” you have in your system. Upgrade now, as Dataram has cost effective 16GB DIMMs for your desktop PC, so even a system with a maximum capacity of 32GB or even 64GB is a common reality.

After purchasing my license key, I can’t get the RAMDisk to recognize above 1GB. What do I do?
Please make sure you have entered your license key into the RAMDisk Configuration Utility. Select the Purchase menu item, then Enter License Key and type in your 16-digit key. You must be connected to the Internet to verify the license key. Once the key is verified, you do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the software.

Can I use RAMDisk with my 32-bit Windows OS to utilize the additional RAM I have installed above 4 GB?
Memory (RAM) usage is limited to the available memory available to the Windows OS and reported by Task Manager. So 32-bit systems are not able to go above 2.85GB (1GB is reserved for Windows). There is no support for PAE (Phyical Address Extension).

After installing RAMDisk, I get a BOD (blue screen of death). What do I do?
Remove/Uninstall RAMDisk from your system. Reboot the system making sure the BSOD does not reoccur. Download the latest version of RAMDisk http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk. Install RAMDisk on your system.

How do I uninstall RAMDisk?
The proper way to uninstall RAMDisk is via the Control Panel > Add/Remove Prograns, find and select RAMDisk, and click on ‘Uninstall’.

After creating a drive, the system can’t see the drive letter assigned. What do I do?
Go into Disk Management in Windows, Select the RAMDisk drive, and format it as an NTFS drive. By doing this the drive will appear as a formatted drive.

I am getting ‘Active X’ errors. How do I fix that?
You are likely running older version of RAMDisk which should be replaced. Therefore, remove the RAMDisk software from your system. Download the latest version of RAMDisk from Dataram’s website at http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk and install. This will eliminate the Active X error.

If I have a number of clients serviced by a Web Server, how many RAMDisk licenses do I need?
You will only need one Commercial RAMDisk license, which would be for the Web Server.

I purchased a RAMDisk License Key but what do I do with it?
Run the RAMDisk Configuration Utility, select the Purchase menu item, then Enter License Key and type in your 16-digit key. You must be connected to the Internet to verify the license key. Once the key is verified, you do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the software.

I am running RAMDisk with Windows Server 2008/2008 RC2 and am not able to complete my license key registration.
Windows Server 2008 and 2008 RC2 have enhanced security which blocks the connection and delivery of your license file from Dataram’s licensing server. One work-around is to disable the enhanced security, re-enter your 16-digit license key and complete the process, then re-enable the enhanced security. If this is not successful (or possible), please submit a support ticket online at our RAMDisk Support Center. Provide your license code and transaction number to receive the fastest response.
